Ways to Give

You can support Legacy Health in a variety of ways. Whichever method you choose, your tax-deductible gift goes to work immediately supporting the health of our community.

You may choose a foundation from the menu at left and make a gift online. You may also mail a check in support of the foundation of your choice to PO Box 4484, Portland, Oregon 97208. Your gift is receipted promptly.

For larger gifts, consider making a pledge. This allows you to complete your gift by making regular payments over time. Each payment on your pledge is eligible for an income-tax deduction.

Tribute gifts

You can make a gift in memory or recognition of a loved one, or can recognize the outstanding care you received at a Legacy facility through our Care Champions program.

Matching gifts

Many companies sponsor matching gifts programs that will double or even triple contributions made to Legacy Health by their employees or their employees' spouses. Check with your employer (including companies you retired from) to see if this option is available.

Gifts of stock

Legacy Health accepts the donation of appreciated securities, stocks and bonds, which may offer the donor significant tax advantages.

Umpqua Investments, Inc., is the firm that carries Legacy Health Foundations' accounts. If you are interested in making a stock transfer to one of our foundations, please have the following information available when you call us:

  • Name, address and telephone number of the individual making the transfer
  • Name of the stock you are planning to give and number of shares
  • Name of the firm from which the stock will be transferred
  • Tribute information, if applicable

We will put you in contact with our broker and give you the appropriate account information. Call The Office of Philanthropy at 503-415-4700 or email us at giving@lhs.org.

Planned giving

A comprehensive estate plan provides peace of mind by ensuring your assets will be managed and distributed according to your wishes.

An estate plan can provide tax benefits and income today while providing for your loved ones tomorrow and supporting the charities that you care most about. A planned gift to Legacy is a lasting expression that ensures the highest quality health care for you, your family and friends today and in the years to come.

The Office of Philanthropy at Legacy Health can provide you and your financial advisors with information regarding:

  • Bequests through an existing will or living trust (including sample language)
  • Charitable gift annuities
  • Charitable remainder trusts
  • Gifts of tax-deferred retirement plans and life insurance policies
  • Other resources to help you establish beneficial plans for the ultimate distribution of your wealth.

The Office of Philanthropy is happy to provide gift planning information to you and your financial advisors at no cost or obligation. We will be glad to make available to you the help and advice of experts in estate planning, tax planning and all forms of giving. For more information, please contact Wendy Hill, planned giving officer, at 503-413-8123 or wkhill@lhs.org.
